The Skaven

The vile rat-men known as Skaven dwell in the underground of the Warhammer World, ruling over a vast Under-Empire that spreads along whole continents, from the jungles of Lustria to the far East. Below the cities and kingdom of the other, unsuspecting races, the Skaven breed and grow strong, amassing vast armies to bring chaos and destruction upon the surface dwellers.

Skaven society is dominated by clans engaged in a continuous fight for dominance, killing and enslaving each other’s members to gain the favor of their god, the malicious Horned Rat. Even within the clans, there are no strong bonds between the rat-men, for they are selfish and coward, and will take every opportunity to backstab a rival for a personal gain.Yet, though all their infighting and selfishness, they share a united purpose, which makes the Skaven race a terrible threat: to raze the world for the glory of the Horned Rat.

It is unsure how many clans dwell in the Under-Empire, for their numbers and relative strength is constantly changing, but four of them are renowned for being the greatest and strongest, each sporting their own specialization and unique strategies and weaponry.

The Warlock-Engineers of Clan Skryre are the  master craftsmen of the Skaven.Combining magic with ingenuity, they research and build weapons and other machines fueled by Warpstone, the crystallized essence of the Winds of Magic. Being it a highly unstable material, most of Clan Skyre’s creations are unpredictable at best, as deadly as their own wielders as they are to their target, but the Warlock Engineers do not care; what matters to them is to unleash as much devastation as possible, and if some of their subordinates dies they can just find another.

SKH001_Ikit_ClawAs the emissary of Lord Morskittar, ruler of the clan, Ikit Claw is in charge of the massive warpstone forges beneath Skavenblight, where most of the great creations of Clan Skryre take form. After being wounded in a laboratory incident, Ikit devised a suit of techno-magical armor to support him, and has upgraded it with an array of powerful warpstone-powered devices, the most frightful of which is the Storm Daemon, a halberd-like weapon wrapped with copper coil and infused with warp energy, that can hurl bolts of lightning upon his enemies from a long distance.

SKM001_Ratling_GunOne of the newest and most devastating Skryre inventions, the Ratling Gun is a multi-barrelled weapon that fires a spray of warpstone-covered bullets at the enemy. Its high rate of fire compensates for its bulk, and given the chance, a single weapon team is able to lay waste to an entire enemy unit. The gun is difficult to control, however, and is not known for its accuracy, so collateral damage is common (and usually the firing team does nothing to avoid it). Moreover the Ratling Gun is known for being a highly dangerous weapon event to its crew, as the unstable warp steam that fuels the rotating barrels can sometimes leak out and explode with fatal results.

SKS001_Gutter_RunnersThe assassins of Clan Eshin specializes in espionage, sabotage and delivering swift, silent death to their enemies. Gutter Runners are elite members of the clan who form small, specialized units of saboteurs, whose task is to soften enemy armies before the battle begins. They will stage night raids to enemy encampments, poisoning water and food reserves, setting tents on fire and killing or stealing horses. On the battlefield they often lay ambushes to unprepared units and move around the enemy lines to engage weaker foes like archers and war machines.
