Wisdom of the Old Ones – 30/04/2015 update

Hello folks.  As I did before, a quick post to highlight the recent updates to the Wisdom of the Old Ones page (marked as NEW!).

Q: Can a disk that is completely covered by another disk be targeted by a ranged attack?
A: Yes. As disks do not block line of sight it can be chosen as a target for a ranged attack or other abilities.

Q: Rules for Pinning read “However, if there is a disk between two disks, then the top disk is not pinning the bottom disk; only the disk in the middle is pinning the bottom disk.” (page 4). In the image below the Swordmasters of Hoeth pin Volkmar the Grim and are pinned by the Marienburg Swordsmen.

What is correct?
(a) The Militia Spearmen are pinning both Empire disks since no disk is between them and Volkmar. or (b) The Militia Spearmen are pinning the Marienburg Swordsmen, but not Volkmar the Grim since the Swordsmen and the Swordmasters are considered to be between the Spearmen and Volkmar.
A: Statement b is correct. The Militia Spearman are not pinning Volkmar because they are pinning a disk that is pinning a disk that is pinning Volkmar. Thus there are two disks in between them and Volkmar.

NOTE: Well. It had to happen. Even a precise Sniper Troll like me misses his target from time to time… truth is this interpretation of the pinning rule is different from the one that I gave in the post “On Engagements and Scrum“. User ccxvii made me notice a different view on my own interpretation and it turned out I was wrong. I’m going to update the post to reflect the correct interpretation. I humbly apologize to everybody if my misinterpretation of the rules caused any of you to play incorrectly.

Q: Do disks reinforced through another disk’s ability (i.e. Kairos Fateweaver, Doom Diver Catapult) come into play unactivated if reinforced within a deployment zone that includes the Rendezvous card?
A: Yes, they do not get an activation token.

Q: Can a disk with a Movement value of 0 benefit from the special rule of the Fight in the Underway scenario in order to be moved on another terrain?
A: Yes.

Q: In the Fight in the Underway scenario, is a disk taking the special “move to another terrain” action allowed to benefit from the mobile keyword in order to make a ranged attack or use a focus ability before or after the move?
A: Yes, it counts as a move action and mobile is used when a disk takes a move action.

Q: What happens if there are multiple poison tokens on a disk at the end of the round? Are all the poison token discarded as usual, or is one discarded instead of the damage and the other ones remain on the disk?A: They are removed at the end of the round, as normal. The damage stays if there is at least 1 poison token is on the disk, but doesn’t stop the other one from being removed.

NOTE: This is another instance in which I had reported a misinterpreted rule. I admit the rule about removing poison tokens was a bit ambiguous to me, but in retrospective there’s nothing in there that contradicts the “all tokens except for wounds are removed in the end phase” rule (besides the effect on damage tokens). I’m going to update the relevant Drill article to reflect the correct ruling.

Q: In the Melee Phase Karl Franz (Toughness 5, Stamina 1) is pinned by both Tyrion (Attack Strength 6) and the Swordmasters of Hoeth (Attack Strength 5, Swift). Assuming Karl Franz has suffered no wounds yet, how many wounds will he suffer when resolving the engagement?
A: Two wounds. One from the Swordmasters, and one from Tyrion.

Q: What happens to the Hellcannon if it is granted the Stalwart ability from a terrain or deployment card and it triggers his special ability while pinned by another disk? Is it prevented to flip?
A: Yes, it cannot flip. Negative effects override positive effects.

Q: is the caster the only disk affected by Fists of Mork’s Unstable effect or do also disks within short range of it take damage?
A: Just the caster takes damage.

Q: If the caster of an Unstable Fists of Mork is within short range of the target, does it take damage twice (once for the spell effect and once for unstable)?
A: If the caster was within short range of the target, then it takes the damage twice.

I updated my Q&A Collection pdf to version 1.2, and I’m going to include some of them also in my Armies Reference Sheet, which will be updated to version 4.2 as soon as I can. Both files are available from the links above, on my Links & Resources page or from the “Files” section of the Warhammer: Diskwars page on Boardgamegeek.com.
