Units and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Skaven and Wood Elves

Guest article by Jedhead

Hello everyone! We’re back for the final installment of Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars. Thank you to those loyal readers who have hung with me all along, and for those of you just tuning in, make sure you go back and peruse my other ramblings if you enjoy this!

Today we will be discussing the one-regiment armies from the WH:DW expansions. After talking a bit with the Sniper Troll, we decided it was best to mix them in all together, as a full write-up on each one leaves many categories bare for the individual armies. In the future, when we have more expansions, this article will likely be pulled apart and redistributed into full write-ups on each of the armies. Continue reading

Units and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – Vampire Counts

UndeadHostGuest article by Jedhead

Today we will be evaluating the undead legions of the Vampire Counts, who boast some excellent heroes and neat tricks (Reanimate!), but pay for these strengths in other ways. This makes them a bit of a dichotomy, as I discuss below, due to their high-value but high-cost nature. Continue reading

Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – Dwarfs

 DwarfCannonGuest article by Jedhead

Today we are back with a new installment, focused on the Dwarf units! The Dwarf army features very high toughness across the board, which means that they are a bit tanky by default. This is very good for anyone building a dwarf army, as that role is essentially being filled somewhat no matter what disks you take!

Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – Chaos

Guest article by Jedhead

As an army, chaos is a fairly fun, flavorful group of disks that includes impact and disruption in particular as strong suits. If you are looking to pin many enemies and deal out heavy damage, then Chaos is for you. Bloodthirsters, Bloodcrushers, Archaon, and even the Hellcannon can provide a nasty blow to any opponent who does not tread carefully and allows you to pin them. Continue reading

Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – The High Elves

TeclisGuest article by Jedhead

Welcome back to Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars. As promised, we will be covering the High Elves of Ulthuan this week. In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that the High Elf race is my favorite from the realm of Warhammer Fantasy, and that has held true in Diskwars as well. I will try not to gush too much, though. Continue reading

Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars – The Orcs

OrcvsCWGuest article by Jedhead

Welcome back to Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars. Today we are covering the Orcs: a brutal, hard-hitting race that can’t wait to close a charge and bash some heads. They are one race whose flavor was nicely captured for this game, with many high-damage disks on the charge. Continue reading

Guest article by Jedhead

We are back with another installment of unit and hero roles in Warhammer: Diskwars. Today we take you to the land of disciplined infantry and armored cavalry, the land of rapid technological innovation (and occasionally rapid technological disaster). That’s right, we will be visiting the lands of the Empire! Continue reading

Unit and Hero Roles in Warhammer: Diskwars

Units and Heroes on the Warhammer: Diskwars battlefield cover a variety of roles. Some are specialized in destroying foes with devastating charges, others put pressure on the enemy lines from afar through ranged attacks and magic, while other disks are best used as a speed bump to neutralize enemy attacks. Knowing who is who in your (and your opponent’s) army gives you a great advantage during both army building and actual play, as you can plan your strategy around your disks’ capabilities, maximising their strengths while minimising their weaknesses.

Today, as we inaugurate a brand new section of the blog, I leave the keyboard to someone else for the first time. Andrew aka Jedhead already wrote a detailed (and very interesting) role-by-role analysis on the Fantasy Flight Games and Boardgamegeek forums, and offered to lend his expertise to the Sniper Troll (I can assure you he did it spontaneously, no threat of eating, vomit spitting or other form of phyisical and/or arcane damage has been made. Really.). So let’s not waste any more time and let’s introduce our guest author…
